The next Direct Debit problem [15 July 1998]
I've had two reports of what could be called 'the next Direct Debit
problem'.
My correspondents were presented with final demands at the weekend. The red letters were something of a surprise to them, as they had been paying by Direct Debit.
It turns out that CWC had wrongly cancelled 'several thousand' Direct Debit mandates and had not told the cancellees. Although the problem appears to have been resolved, and the cancellees are being asked to fill in a new mandate, it's yet another annoyance..
