New television packages mess [14 October 1998]
There's complete confusion over the new television packages CWC introduced earlier this month.
What happens to the telephone part of packages is crystal clear; no change. The vast majority of ex-Videotron subscribers have not been sent anything about the television part, but a few have had a very odd letter which contains a form to fill in and send back. There is an accompanying statement that, if the form is not received within six weeks, the subscriber will be automatically moved to the most expensive new television package in mid-November. The lawyers on the mailing list jumped about twenty feet in the air when they heard this; the cry of 'you can't accept a contract [change] by silence' went up.
The general impression I get is that this letter should not have been sent to ex-Videotron subscribers. However, some have received it anyway ...
This is probably the most unclear episode I've come across so far in my 17 months of running this site; there has been no direction from CWC and I can't give any advice because I don't know what's supposed to happen!
