Removal of Videoway [6 April 1998]
Over the past few days cable television subscribers have been sent letters stating that the Videoway service, provided by Videotron, will be shut down by CWC next month.
Many people are unhappy about this, as they use the service - and are paying for it - and are not being compensated. The legal position is being checked.
On an almost certainly related note, I have started to receive emails - after a gap of a few months when all was quiet - about people finding themselves removed from Videotron tariffs when, for example, they had an extra line installed and specified that the existing line was to remain on the Videotron tariff.
This is difficult to tackle, as there is no consistent pattern to the responses people are getting from those left in Customer Services. I have decided to send a letter to Graham M Wallace asking what the CWC position is in various situations that could arise. If there is an answer, it will go up here and you will know what to expect; if there is none, it will confirm my suspicion that CWC are still trying to remove people from Videotron tariffs but are now even less particular about the methods used to do so.
Of course, it seems to escape CWC that - in my case, for example - if they stopped their tricks they'd get at least an extra £16 a month, and not a penny of that begrudged, as I'd immediately put in two extra lines for non-Internet use. But, given they way they're behaving, I have no confidence in avoiding a wrangle at least ...
