Wrong Direct Debits [28 April 1998]

Wrong bills are continuing to appear; I presume this is because of the way they are batched.

There's a particular problem with Direct Debits. CWC are offering to repay next month the amount overpaid; this, according to the banks I have spoken to off-the-record, is not good enough.

The banks are unhappy about the whole affair because, in their view, there is quite enough misguided suspicion of Direct Debits and Standing Orders without a reason for real suspicion being provided.

As mentioned before, check your bills and complain if there's a problem. Not only Videotron-Videotron calls are affected; all calls, including regional, national and international ones, may have been overcharged.

Unanswered questions:
  • How long will the misbilling go on for?
  • Will people who don't complain be refunded?
  • What will happen on 4 and 25 May?
Friendly journalists are trying to get a statement out of CWC ...
