CWC try to take the statement back! [22 February 1998]
CWC have tried to take back the statements they made to The Times. Chris Ward has never experienced anything like this in 20 years of journalism; I am suspicious of CWC but am having difficulty believing that they would even try.

All this has shattered CWC's credibility; it must surely be impossible to believe any statement they make in the future - including 'We're taking unmetered local calls away' :)
Where things go from here I do not know. However, I'd suggest that now is the time to sign the pledge if you haven't already done so; I've also cancelled my Direct Debit and will be paying my bill monthly by cheque. Would you want a company that cannot even make a clear public statement near your bank account?
