The latest updates on the unmetered local calls situation are here
Desperate people, desperate measures [11 January 1998]

Ex-Videotron subscribers are being annoyingly sensible. They know a good thing and refuse to be weaned off unmetered local calls. So desperate people, it would seem, are resorting to desperate measures.

CWC have sent out a leaflet and covering letter pushing their own tariffs and announcing both an increase of 11% in monthly line rental and the removal of Combined Services Discount for those who have both phone and TV. Nowhere on the letter or leaflet does it say that ex-Videotron subscribers will lose unmetered local calls if they change to a CWC tariff: until now CWC have at least been honest and stated this.

Presumably being honest isn't working.

But mass complaints and cancellations over these badly handled changes appear to have forced CWC to be honest: it seems that customer support people have been told to advise ex-Videotron subscribers, when they phone up, to stay on the Videotron tariff as it is better value than the CWC ones!

A resounding vote of confidence in CWC's pricing from itself ...
