Pace on Pace [19 November 1998]

There has been a lot of confusion over what CWC's digital set-top box can and cannot do: the manufacturers have cleared everything up by telling us. My thanks to Neil Madhvani for passing on the following email from Pace:

The CWC box supports a 10BaseT Ethernet port for use as a high speed modem for connection to a PC. The STB also has residential software (DTV Navigator) for Internet browsing without the need for an external PC.

So it is a combination of cable modem (to connect to a PC) and set-top box (to connect to a TV)!

And the box has been described as being 'made to CWC's specifications'; you don't gratuitously add Ethernet ports to hardware ...
